Dig­i­tal Mar­ket­ing is a Umbrel­la term for all Online Mar­ket­ing efforts (ie:  Search Engines, Social Media, Email, Online Ads, etc).

Dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing strate­gies are routes to ful­fill dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing goals. Mar­keters usu­al­ly con­fuse tac­tics with strate­gies and that is one of the main rea­sons why dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing strate­gies fail.

What is a Digital Marketing Strategy

Dig­i­tal Mar­ket­ing Strate­gies are paths busi­ness­es take to accom­plish spe­cif­ic goals.  These can be described in 6 lay­ers:

Goals — A Goal should be mea­sur­able, ie: increased traf­fic, more sales, larg­er reach, etc.

Device - Desk­top, Lap­top, Mobile Tablet or any oth­er dig­i­tal gad­get

Pur­pose - Brand Aware­ness, Brand Build­ing or Prod­uct Aware­ness, Increase Sales, etc.

Cus­tomer Pro­file - Demo­graph­ics of the Cus­tomers

Loca­tion - City, Coun­ty, Coun­tries, Con­ti­nent, or Glob­al

Time Frame for ROI - (ROI — Return on Invest­ment) — Should be real­is­tic with the expec­ta­tion it could take a year to see end results.

Strategy vs Tactics

Strat­gies are the Paths the Mar­keter takes to achieve goals.  Tac­tics are the Steps they take to car­ry out the Strat­e­gy.

Strat­e­gy is the Plan, Tac­tics are the Actions

For Exam­ple:  Dig­i­tal Strat­e­gy is to increase user par­tic­i­pa­tion on Social Media by post­ing at least 5 times a day. The Tac­tic might say to Post to Face­book between 3–5 PM and on Twit­ter between 6–7 PM.

A Dig­i­tal Mar­ket­ing Strat­e­gy encom­pass­es one Goal, with a Mea­sure­able end result.  Try­ing to accom­plish Mul­ti­ple Goals con­fuse the issue and No Goals leaves you with no direc­tion.

One Strat­e­gy, One Goal, One Tac­tic, One End Result

Strategy & The Target Audience

Dig­i­tal Strat­e­gy should be cen­tered around your Tar­get Audi­ence.  Research your Tar­get Audi­ence, deter­mine what they’re wants, needs, and desires are.  What is the Ques­tion they need you to answer?

Con­tent mar­ket­ing and search engine Mar­ket­ing strate­gies should focus more on the key­words and con­tent where­as social media mar­ket­ing, and email mar­ket­ing should focus more user trends and engage­ment.

What are the cur­rent Trends that affect your Tar­get Audi­ence?  What is the Newest, Hottest thing out there?  What are they talk­ing about?  Who are they talk­ing about?

Fail­ing to mon­i­tor Trends could be a game chang­er.  If you don’t know what is Trend­ing how can you know what the ques­tion is?

Final ThoughtsDigital Strategy

The Strat­e­gy of One is an inter­est­ing con­cept and worth fur­ther test­ing.   A Dig­i­tal Mar­ket­ing Strat­e­gy can sim­pli­fy your Online life in so many ways.  Instead of won­der­ing around out there aim­less­ly, you have a direc­tion, a des­ti­na­tion.

You know  where you  need to go to find your Audi­ence and deploy your Tac­tics.  You know  whats Trend­ing and to attract the atten­tion of your Tar­get Audi­ence.  Your Strat­e­gy is out­lined, Your Goals are mea­sur­able, Your Tac­tics are in place, and Your Audi­ence is wait­ing.

 Take off and have a great tiime in every­thing you do, it makes life so much eas­i­er.
