What is a Niche

Well wouldn’t you like to know? Yes it’s a strange little word isn’t it? But it is the center of everything for a Blogger.  To Mkake Money Online with a Blog, you have to choose a “Niche”.  So here is the definition:

a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.“he believes he has found a niche in the market”. Oxford Languages

Yeah I know definitions, hey at least I’m not asking you to write the word and the definition 5 times! I remember those days fondly.

Before You Write Anything

Before you Write Anything, you have to determine what your “Niche” is and come up with a name for your “Domain”.  A Domain is the name of your Website (ie: myblog.com).

There are several ways to do this. Many people have varied Passions, Interests, and/or Hobbies. Anything of this nature would make a great Niche. You want to write about something you enjoy, you want to learn more about, and possibly you already have some knowledge. That gives you a bit of an advantage. If its something you like to read about or do, your more likely to maintain your focus

Another suggestion is to walk thru you house, office, garage or work space. What do you see? Trophies from when you used to race cars. There’s a Niche. Maybe you collect Antiques, or Teddy Bears. Remember the “Beanie Babies”? Talk about a Niche. Maybe you make those beautiful epoxy tables. Do you read a lot of Crime Novels, maybe you a Mechanic and know a lot about Tools and how to use them, All theses are examples of a Niche.

Drill It Down

You would want to “drill” you Niche down. Be more specific, remember you want to answer a question? Lets say you Niche is Growing Plants. Pretty broad subject isn’t it. So let’s say, Growing Plants — Flowers. Still pretty large field, “drill” down even further. Growing Plants — Flowers — Roses — Miniature. So you Niche is Growing Miniature Roses. That sounds really simple when you read it but when you doing it yourself, it can be frustrating.

List everything you ever thought you might enjoy learning about in depth. Sit with that list, read thru it again, and again. Mark off the subjects you just don’t see happening. Eventually it will come to you. Like a light bulb in the night.

Niche Finder

There are available on the Internet, programs and apps that search out a Niche for you. I use Google a lot. Google has a lot of built in tools for Making Money Online. They have Research Tools and tools that provide you with the back office data you will be looking for later, down the road. Plus Google Extensions for you Chrome browser.

Most Affiliate Programs you join will provide with a Niche Finder as part of their package. I suggest you check 2–3 different sources. Always look online for free Tools. Beware of any site that asks for credit card information just to look at their site. I haven’t had to pay for anything except my Domain Name (wow $14 a year).

Final Thoughts

Selecting a Niche can be as broad or as limited as you want. Again, Nothing is Written in Stone. But using specific terms, targeting a specific Niche and knowing you readers will bring you the Traffic you looking for. When I search for an item, I look for that specific item. I don’t want a trash can, I want a trash can with an attached lid and it has to be on wheels, See the difference in the search terms. One very general, the other “drilled down” to a specific Niche.

Take what we’ve talk about today and think about it. Roll it around in you head. What would you Niche be? Would you make it a General Niche or “drill” it down to something more specific?

Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think would be your Niche,

Always keep in mind that we are here to be a part of a community. Write everything with the idea that your helping someone answer a question. People like to find an Authority on the subject they are looking into, Become that Authority by applying thought about you content, research, and link the site occasionally. Google likes that from what I hear.
